What is Pilates?

Pilates is a form of exercise developed by Joseph Pilates, which emphasizes the balanced development of the body through core strength, flexibility, and awareness in order to support efficient, graceful movement.

Utilizing our knowledge of correct biomechanics of the body, the Pilates-evolved exercise approach of Polestar Pilates gave the traditional work of Joseph Pilates a new lease of life for health care professionals to apply clinical reasoning to the use of the Pilates exercise system for wellness and rehabilitation.

Pilates-evolved exercises help you move more efficiently by strengthening appropriate muscle groups to help stabilize the core of the body whilst still enabling it to move freely. It dramatically and rapidly improves strength, flexibility, posture and overall alignment of the musculature and skeleton without increasing bulk. It is an indispensable tool for athletes and unconditioned people alike enabling them to improve coordination, strength, developing efficient movement strategies and an aligned, balanced posture.

Pilates, as an exercise method designed to stretch, strengthen, and balance the body, is not just exercise - it requires focused attention engaging the mind and body.

Who is it for?

Pilates is suitable for all ages and fitness levels. Whilst it is perfect for athletes looking to enhance their performance and avoid the risk of injury, its slow controlled approach means it is also suitable for first-time exercisers.

Pilates is a whole body training method, integrating the upper and lower extremities with the trunk to improve coordination, stabilization of your back, neck and shoulders allowing more efficient patterns of function required for your sporting activities.

Rehabilitation Programme.

Role in Rehabilitation

  • Use of special Pilates equipment helps allow early initiation of exercise following injury.
  • Your body weight is supported to allow an early return to movement and active rehabilitation in a safe protective environment.
  • With the equipment specific problems and dysfunctional movement can be targeted
  • Your body’s ability to re-learn new and efficient movement patterns is enhanced
  • Pilates - evolved exercises can help identify and strengthen the correct muscles to help stabilize your body in the new, corrected alignment and posture.

Preventive Health Programmes

You don’t have to be injured or have a medical problem to benefit from Pilates Exercises sessions!

Everyone can benefit from strengthening your “power house” of core muscles, which will help you to function throughout your daily work and routines without experiencing the aches and pains of fatigued postural muscles.

Proper use of the core muscle groups through our abdomen, lower back and shoulder girdle, allow more efficient movement patterns and better posture, which we can use every day in our normal activities. By practicing Pilates exercises regularly you will notice you feel taller and move more gracefully, with your limbs moving smoothly and freely.

What we offer for Pilates?

Initial Assessment
To evaluate any underlying problems and to ensure they are addressed appropriately in your exercise program PLUS Introduction to Pilates Principles

Individual Sessions
Based on Pilates specialist apparatus, for prevention and general well-being

Flexible Rehabilitation Approach
Allowing for combination of Physiotherapy &/ or Occupational Therapy together with (30 minutes) of Pilates Programme using the equipment

Intensive Rehabilitation Approach
Accommodating a combination of Physiotherapy &/or Occupational Therapy, and (45 minutes) of Pilates exercises utilizing the equipment

Training Programme

Pantai Integrated Rehab has been running training programmes for those interested to become certified Polestar Pilates instructors since 2005. 

Under the auspices of Polestar Pilates Asia Inc the Asian Licencee , with its Education Director Dawnna Wayburne who is also a Principal Educator for the Polestar Pilates® EducationLLC, based in Miami Florida, Pantai Integrated Rehab has been spearheading, and remains committed to ensuring international standards of education of therapists and fitness professionals in Malaysia.
